Learning Community 3
Over the year I would like to share the learning of the years 5&6 Children in Learning Community 3 at West Melton School. This is our learning journey. You are welcome to share with us.
Learning and Living The West MeltonSchool Way
In Learning Community 3 we are determined to be the best that we can be. We don't give up when the learning is hard; we take responsibility for our behaviour and learning and we bounce back from disappointment and failure.
To be honest we haven't got it all perfect yet but we are working on it!

Subscribe to: Posts (Atom) Our ICT Goals
We have 4 goals to achieve this term in our ICT learning to make our inquiry learning interesting and challenging. We all have to create a powerpoint or movie on our learning about: SunSmart, Keeping Ourselves Safe or The West Melton School Way.
We have to use Inspiration to create a mind map/diagram about 2 characters in n Anthony Horowitz book called "South By South East."
We have taken several digital photos of ourselves as close-up, head and shoulders and full body. They have to be saved into a folder on SmartNet. Our fourth photo is a close, close-up of our profile. They will be printed in black and white and using paint, we are going to lift the tops off our digital heads and insert words that describe our intelligences and learning styles. We've learnt a bit about ourselves and know what our strengths are. Our parents had to do some homework too and they had to think about our intelligences and fill in some forms too.
What we are trying to do this year is to develop the other intelligences that are not as strong.

Rain in Rotorua

Rain in Rotorua
We had to hire umbrellas one morning and it cost us $60 which we got back when we returned them. I was so determined not to lose the brolly. This is a picture of Ms Jackson sheltering under the brolley outside our hotel before we set off to another hard day of learning. I saw so many fantastic new gizmos and great ideas to make learning more interesting in our classrooms. I know that it is silly to have gizmos if they are not being used by the children to enhance their learning but the gizmos and gadgets were fun!

My Room Mate

My Room Mate
Mrs Quinn and I did a lot of learning over the 3 days and we were really tired at the end of each day. Would you believe that Mrs Quinn is a giggler and that she likes to talk at night instead of go to sleep. We laughed a lot. When I wouldn't talk to her anymore she would text me, even though we were in the same room. Talk about pesky. After the three days of learning about ICT in schools my brain hurt.

The Convention Centre

The Convention Centre
The ICT Conference was held in the Rotorua Energy Centre. It is a massive building and not far from the hotel where Mrs Quinn, Ms Jackson and I stayed. Across the lake I could see the steam rising from hot mud pools and boiling water around the lake. It is a strange feeling to be on the edge of so much volcanic activity

I have always been fascinated by the history of Mt Tarawera and spent several hours reading the stories about the massive eruption and destruction. Even though I knew it was going to happen, the earthquake experience in the movie room was quite unsettling. It was sad to think about all of the people who lost their lives and the destruction of one of the wonders of the world: The Pink and White Terraces.
